Questions for DJ Set-up?

Post by Capt-Sue »

I'm getting stuff for the house so I can practice DJing on my netbook. I have a midi controller already. Probably going to upgrade it in a few weeks. I'm buying PA speakers for sure. I know I need something to plug my speakers into so I can play music on it. Would this be ok to get?

What software are you using to do the DJing? Serato? Traktor?

Virtual DJ. I got Traktor.. I compared the two... Virtual DJ runs smoother and doesn't take as long as Traktor to load my songs.

I use an iPad with TouchOSC .. it's the best controller I've used, syncs up great with mac or pc. I have an awesome 7 page traktor template that let's you control things like samples and FX on a whole different level.

Being able to use an X and Y axis to move 3 FXs at once is great.

Djing is more and more a performance art as we get into things like live remixing. Which Sasha does so well with the Maven controller and Abelton live.

If you have an iPad and want help setting it up or want my traktor and template settings hit me up andrejhoward@gmail I'm more than happy to share.

Yeah it's quite cool. Here's a screen shots of what my main screen looks like. Mind you I have seperate pages for in depth effects, library browsing, a jog wheel with several functions etc.

I don't have an ipad. Still using my netbook. I am going to upgrade my midi controller from I-Mix Midi Controller to this http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... CFoQ8gIwAA
Gemini CNTRL-7 midi controller

Placing an order to get this when I move back to Jax beginning of Sept. Not sure what program I will use with it. Right now, my netbook is broke. I can't get virtual dj to work on mine. I have to replace the LCD Screen and upgrade my windows.

I may have a new Saturday night when I come back to Jax. Things are in the works already. I am looking for dj's to work with that spin similar music I do... Indie Dance Electro Punk.
