Your approach to starting a project?

Post by enation.org »

What approach do you use to start a project?

  • Do you have something in mind and go from there?
Lay down some beats/rhythm and see what goes well with that?
Tweak some synths and go from whatever noise you create?

I think about music 24/7, and I just the the melody on my head so when that happens I just try to make it real with my keyboard ! :D

I start with a rythm.

I can be watching TV or washing my ass and for some unkown reason, I will here a rythm in my head and that's when I know it's time to sit down and write music.

Unfortunatly for me....that music in my head hasn't been there for about a month or so. :(

It really depends on the project. I just did a remix for the White Stripes-Seven nation Army and Shiney Disco Balls. I worked with the vocals to find the key and went from there. If it is original stuff it might get started with a melody and then I find what tempo that melody would be most effective. Yesterday I just sat around and put together a bunch of drum loops.

I look for a sound that is close to the beat in my head. Then I go from there.

I usually have a blow up in mind before I make the track....build up and climax...which is ass backwards but it seems to work it self out.
