With deepest respect, who is KRS to say what hip hop is?

As far I know, most rappers aren't even living that "hip hop" lifestyle that KRS invisions.

So where is hip hop?

I know more grafitti artists, dj's and b-boys living that "hip hop" lifestyle then the rapper (MC).

Maybe its just that most of rap and hip hop broke just like most of science and religion.

Now, Preppy Raver enjoys 50 cent and its probally because his lines are catchy. He is definitely a rapper but living this "Rich Afro- clubbed out Decadant Materialistic lifestyle." --Whatever that means.

In a sense, he is flamboyant and the people love that cause its somewhat rock star.

I personally think that 50 cent (including his bubblegum gangsta army) does feel what he writes. But in its entirely, he is junk food and lacks personal growth.

What you're obviously failing to realize that there are alot of underground MC's that you've probably never even heard that also write graff, b-boy, and dj. THAT is living hip hop. Not talking publicly about the dirt that they want people to THINK that they're doing.

I wasn't implying that KRS is the epitome of the culture, nor was I implying that his word is gospel. But, the line I quoted is pure truth. Any real hip hop head knew that even before KRS said it. How old are you, really?

So what you're saying is basically that 50 cent is not living hip hop. That 50 cent is just a rapper whose living pop mainstream. In other words, hip hop is underground and some rap is mainstream, borderline and underground.

In other words, what we see on television or listen on the radio is not hip hop but just a shatter piece of hip hop.

As for the KRS quote and the hip hop heads who would agree with that quote, I'm guessing there has been a hip hop schism since most mainstream rappers don't live "hip hop."

We can only conclude that KRS is an Orthodox Hip Hop follower and that 50 cent is a Reformed Hip Hop follower that focuses just on the rapping.

I say this because I'm guessing that grafitti (as well as those that b-boy and dj) is also something you do and that Hip Hop is something you live.

I'm aware that there is a lot of underground MC's that do live hip hop but it seems to me that the music world is referring peeps like Jay-Z and 50 cent who has more fans to support them then those that are Orthodox in Hip Hop and are viewed as underground, as the examples of hip hop.

Its kinda like saying the true christian church is some Evangelical American Church when in reality, it all started in the Catholic Church.

But what I'm asking you, why is true hip hop underground? Why is a branch of hip hop mainstream? Does true hip hop like being underground or is it failing to appeal to all listeners?

Hey, Nirvana used to be considered indy rock which in a sense is consider underground, but all of sudden it actually exploded and became mainstream. Nirvana didn't even intend to make it mainstream, it actually bothered them that their unique shit became so damn popular.

How did this happen and why is it not happening within underground hip hop?
