I need technical help
I have photos that are 775kb's each...I need to make the file smaller, do I just make the picture smaller with a Photoshop type program or do I need to make the actual file (how?) smaller? I know I know I'm an idiot, but I don't do too much w/pictures

how large are they? inch wise
there are several things you can do to shrink the kb
you can try doing a save as .gif that way if any quality is lost you still have the original but .gif is typically smaller in kb size
or the other option reduce size
unless you have multiple layers to the image- if you have several layers you can merge them into one layer and that will reduce the "size"

putting the image resolution at 72 ppi (pixels per inch for onscreen) or 72dpi (dots per inch for print) is correct resolution for monitors ... actual image size depends on how large you want on screen, but has less to do with file size than resolution.
Also if your saving as a gif, it will save smaller but it saves at 256 colors. and even smaller yet if you change the # of colors to less. Thou you might be able to get a better image using full color and have a smaller file saving as a jpg with a lower quality setting. Typically I save all photos as jpg files with 70% quality or more. Graphics that are not overly intense in colors I save as a gif. All depends on what looks best with the lowest file size. PNG are good as well but tend to shift colors a bit on some monitors.
Sorry I'm a graphic design geek. hehehe
